Electric or Gas
If you want to purchase a kiln, you will have to choose between heating with gas or with electricity. We prefer gas heated installations. This is more sustainable. In energy works electricity is produced by gas, and gas yield in this is only 20%. We prefer to use gas directly to avoid this loss upon conversion of gas into electricity.
The choice between gas or electricity is also subject to the product you want to heat.
In summary, the differences between a gas kiln and an electric kiln are the following.
- Gas heated kilns: the kilns are supplied with high-speed burners or atmospheric burners.
- Electric kilns: the kilns are supplied with electric heating elements of various shapes.
- An intermediate of gas heated and electrically heated kilns is a radiant tube kiln. These kilns have the same effect as an electric kiln, but operate on gas.
The temperature of the kilns may vary from 60° C to 1700° C, both for gas heated and for electric kilns.
